quick update: road report day one

Published on Monday, May 16th, 2005

Miles: 565
Interstates: 65, 10, 12, 10 (again), 49, 20
States: Alabama, Mississippi, Lousiana, ……….more Louisiana, Texas
Soundtrack: Leia (van gogh), Heather, Kate (a girl in winter), Sarah/sis* (dawn to dusk), Rise (songs about texas)
Moment of Zen: In central Louisiana, you can get pizza, fill up your car, and gamble, all in the same place. No, really. Every gas station along the interstate in central LA had a mini casino attached. Very weird. But not as weird as the fact that apparently, anything that advertises for a casino also has to provide a phone number for those who might be addicted to gambling. All the billboards and signs had things like “Gambling problem? Call 1-800-GAMBLING” tacked on at the end. As evidenced in this photo, the casinos are doing a really good job with this.

P.S. Leia and Rosa, this one’s for you. That’s what greeted me at the Texas border. :) I just had to take a photo.

P.P.S. I cannot begin to describe the disgustingness of my windshield. There cannot possibly be any insects left alive in the vast swamplands of Louisiana. Bleccch.

* two Sarahs gave me music… this is my-sister-Sarah, not penn-state-Sarah :)
